During a pandemic, it is quintessential for MNCs dealing in the IT sector to work from remote locations via audio and video teleconferencing seamlessly. Enterprises and startups are facing challenges while working from home. Poor Connectivity is one of the challenges that employees are experiencing. Employees who have age-old laptops,  poor network, poor connectivity, and have little knowledge and exposure in handling the video conferencing software like Google Hangouts, GoTo Meetings, Skype, and many more. Small companies as well as start-up companies are brawling to survive in this pandemic. Another challenge that employees and employers are experiencing is the decline in productivity. Giant companies like Ola, Uber, Swiggy, Zomato, Livspace, Make My Trip, Book My Show, Car Dekho have laid off their employees. 

  • Ola has laid off  1400 employees as the revenue has fallen down by 94%. Uber India has let go of its 600 employees. 
  • Uber has trimmed 25% of its global workforce. Also, many companies have either laid off their employees or have asked a few to go on temporary leave.  
  • Unicorn in the food chain industry, Swiggy has partway through 1,100 employees. 
  • Food Delivery unicorn, Zomato has announced a 13% reduction of its employees and salary cuts. 
  • Another unicorn of home design Livspace has laid off 450 employees. 
  • Another big shot, Make my Trip has laid off 350 employees due to the adverse effects of lockdown. 
  • Book My Show has laid off 270 of its workforce due to the impact of COVID 19. 
  • Car Dekho has also slashed the salaries and laid off their workforce. 
  • WeWork has laid off 20 percent of its workforce from India.
  • OYORooms has slashed the salaries of all employees by 25%. Adding to this, few employees are sent on temporary leave.

These companies have left with no choice other than reducing the size of the workforce. The current pandemic seems to have had no adverse consequence on one of India’s leading Startups of Air Purification, Magneto CleanTech, as they decided to reward the employees by subscribing to the monetary benefits in the midst of COVID-19 lockdown.
